Charity Quiz at the Crown and Cushion

The quiz held at the Crown and Cushion was a wonderful evening, a great success. As well as the quiz there was a raffle with over 40 prizes and Don Davison auctioned an Easter egg which he had won at Easter.

We had 21 teams and 105 people! it was my 1st quiz but people say it was the biggest turn out ever seen in Chipping Norton (I don't know though), we raised £805.00 for Daisy.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped in any way, but donating raffle prizes, collecting raffle prizes my quiz masters and of course all those who attended the evening.

Thanks Linda (Crown and Cushion)

Guess who's coming to dinner!!!

The Conservative Party has revealed the names of individuals who have given "significant" donations to the party and also met the prime minister for dinner. Who are they?

'Thank you' dinner at 10 Downing Street: 14 July 2010

The dinner was held while the prime minister's flat was undergoing refurbishment.

Sir Anthony and Lady Carole Bamford: Sir Anthony is the chairman of construction equipment business JCB. The 66-year-old was knighted in 1990. He regularly makes the Sunday Times rich list. This year, he saw his net worth reach £1.85bn. He and Lady Bamford live in Staffordshire but have homes all over the world. Lady Bamford runs Daylesford Organics and the fashion business Bamford & Sons. In 2010, Sir Anthony was reportedly in the running for a peerage, but he told the Evening Standard he withdrew his name following an objection. He has given the Conservative Party more than £2m in donations since June 2006.

The fight to save The Unicorn Public House in Great Rollright

I wish to keep the community updated on events regarding the pub. I aim to keep the site with a little history about the pub, when open, from as much information as I   can get from anyone who cares to send me what they have. I also want to try to keep a record of what is going on visually, and also as much information as I can from behind the scenes from WODC, English Heritage and word of mouth.

Chipping Norton Sainsbury's supermarket plan refused

West Oxfordshire District Council refused permission for the 30,000 sq ft (9,100 sq m) supermarket on the former Parker Knoll site at Chipping Norton.

Objectors had complained a new store would increase traffic and affect smaller businesses.

Sainsbury's said it would have provided greater food choice and created about 200 jobs.

Steve Pitz, of the Stop Chippy's Out of Town Supermarket (Scoots) campaign group, called the decision a "tick in the right box for common sense".

He said: "The advent of a new superstore development would have just been disastrous for the town retailers.   More here

Boris Johnson says he never rode ex-police horse and is not part of David Cameron's 'Chipping Norton set'

London mayor Boris Johnson, who is tipped as a possible successor to Prime Minister David Cameron, has moved to distance himself from the row about Rebekah Brooks's ex-police horse.

                                                       (Telegraph 04/03/12)

Mr Johnson, who writes a column in The Daily Telegraph, also made clear that he was not part of the tightly-knit "Chipping Norton set", which includes Mr Cameron, Mrs Brooks and Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson and that met socially until the phone hacking scandal erupted.

Mr Johnson told BBC London 94.9 that he had never ridden the ex-police horse. Describing the row as "horsegate", Mr Johnson was asked if he had ever "had a canter" on the ex-police horse. He replied: "Absolutely not."

The Mayor, who is standing for a second four year term this summer, stressed that he was not part of a Cotswold media elite. He said: "I count myself proudly as a non-member of any kind of Chipping Norton set, or anything else like that, I have not been involved in any of that.

"Politicians of all parties not accept that it was not David Cameron who went on a slumber party with Rebekah Brooks. There has been this ghastly affected intimacy between politicicans and press.

"Sometimes it has been a genuine friendship and other times it is people seeing what they can get out of the relationship. I do think it got too close for comfort and the Leveson inquiry is shining this light on it. People will know think 'we have got to be more careful in future'."
